Representative Chen Jun of China: Will develop electric vehicle batteries that can run more than 1000 kilometers on one charge

Release Date: 2024-03-08 10:53:55| Source: China Net

China Network, March 8 (Reporter Wei Jing)-The second session of the 14th National People's Congress held a second "representative channel" concentrated interview activity on March 8. Chen Jun, deputy of the National People's Congress, vice president of Nankai University and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who has been engaged in battery research for more than 30 years, revealed that in the next one to two years, he and his team will break through the research and development of 600 watt hours per kilogram of solid-state batteries. Once charged, electric vehicles can run more than 1000 kilometers. "This is a globally leading technological change, and we are also actively trying to seize the commanding heights of the future development of power batteries and electric vehicles."

Chen Jun said that at present, electric vehicles are not running fast enough, charging is not fast enough, especially in cold weather, it is easy to lie down, etc., behind these phenomena are actually related to batteries, so the research on better performance and safer batteries is a major scientific and technological issue, whether in the electric vehicle industry or in the field of energy storage.

He and his team developed a new battery system beyond the traditional battery, proposed a new battery working principle, created new battery materials, greatly increased the energy density of the battery, and greatly increased the mileage of electric vehicles. At the same time, it has designed and prepared flame retardant electrolyte which can work in all-weather and wide temperature range, large-capacity battery which can work at minus 70℃, and low-cost rechargeable sodium battery and zinc battery based on high-yield elements in China, which provide technical support for large-scale energy storage in the future.

Chen Jun pointed out that at present, solid-state batteries are the focus of research and development in various countries. Once industrialized, they will change the existing electric vehicle industry pattern and open up emerging markets such as electric aviation. He and his team actively undertake major national research plans and key research and development projects, cooperate with Beijing science and technology innovation superior units to tackle key problems, and have developed new solid-state battery samples of 400 watt hours per kilogram. The energy density of the most advanced 300 watt hours per kilogram lithium ion battery on the market exceeds 30%. In the next one to two years, it will also break through 600 watt hours per kilogram of solid-state battery research and development, charging once, electric vehicles can run more than 1000 kilometers. At the same time, in terms of fast charging, low temperature performance and safety performance, it should also be greatly improved.
